Ricoh Canada wins Ecologo status
Ricoh Canada inc. is pleased to announce that it has been certified
by the Environmental Choice program. Environmental Choice is Environment
Canada’s ecolabelling program. It provides a market incentive
to manufacturers and suppliers of environmentally preferable products
and services and thereby helps consumers identify products and
services that are environment-friendly. Participation in the program
gives Ricoh the right to advertise on the Environmental Choice
web site and receive a listing in the Environmental Choice Catalogue,
an annual publication that is regularly consulted by consumers
who are seeking to purchase environmentally friendly products and
services. The program is operated by TerraChoice Environmental
Services Inc., a contractor to Environment Canada.
The qualification process
In order to qualify as a certified user of the Environmental Choice
Logo (the “EcoLogo”) Ricoh’s products had to
undergo stringent examination and provide proof that they met all
the criteria of the program. Standards dealt with such things as
noise and dust emissions, recyclability after useful life, energy
saving features, ozone emissions, use of CFCs in the manufacturing
process and creation of VOCs. All of the products presented by
Ricoh for certification had already met the stringent similar standards
in the United States (Energy Star) and in Europe (Blue Angel) and
they passed with flying colours in Canada.
Products certified
Three categories of machines were certified: Copiers, Laser Printers
and Facsimile Machines. There are 34 models of copiers (including
digital and analog, black & white and colour), 12 models of
printers and 11 models of facsimile machines.
The benefits
This certification is a major achievement for Ricoh. It will provide
an enhancement to the many already attractive and competitive features
of Ricoh products. We are very proud that all the machines listed
have been certified and we will be working diligently to ensure
that as new machines are released that they too receive the EcoLogo
sticker.
Communicating our new status
In order to ensure that this achievement is made known to as many
of our customers and potential customers as possible, a campaign
has been launched to apply the EcoLogo stickers to the largest
number of machines as possible in the shortest period of time.
Service Technicians play a pivotal role
Our Service Technicians are playing a key role in this program.
A vast majority of the machines that are entitled to bear the EcoLogo
sticker are at customer locations. The only Ricoh representative
who sees them on a regular basis is the Service Technician, both
Ricoh employees and service employees who are working for our Dealers.
Both groups have been provided with a supply of stickers and have
been asked to apply them to every certified machine that they come
across in their daily activities. Once it is done, the sticker
is there for the life of the machine.
In addition to all of the above,
steps are underway to have the stickers applied by the factory
as a part of the manufacturing process.
