POSITION: BINDERY OPERATORS (1 Year Contract)
REPORTS TO: Mark Phillips, Manager, Client Services & ISO Quality Systems
LOCATION: RDM – Aurora: 205 Industrial Parkway North
DATE: May 3, 2010

BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for the coordination of all orders through the print production order cycle, meeting deadlines and ensuring customer satisfaction.

  • Hours of work: Monday to Friday 2:45PM - 11:15PM
  • Location: Industrial Parkway N., Aurora, ON
  • Special Considerations: This position is a 1 year contract opportunity with the possibility of contract renewal or full time hire.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Binding:

  • Worker reviews docket and seeks clarification from Bindery Supervisor if necessary
  • Check to ensure the books required for the order are available
  • Bind the books

Punching:

  • Worker reviews docket and seeks clarification from Bindery Supervisor if necessary
  • Job is jogged and organized
  • Punch  (either hand or machine) is checked for set-up
  • At each step and as books are being punched, operators will perform random quality checks
  • When punching is complete, job is moved to the next station along with docket and any specific instructions required

Coil Binding

  • Worker reviews docket and seeks clarification from Bindery Supervisor if necessary
  • Check order for colour and size of coil required
  • Organize work area – make sure all other jobs are put away and that supplies needed are on hand for efficient production
  • Coil books – check quality often (do books open and lay flat?  Is the coil size correct?)
  • Move job along with docket to next work station

 Inserting & Sealing:

  • Worker reviews docket and seeks clarification from Bindery Supervisor if necessary
  • Check the job prior to placing into envelopes & sealing
  • Insert & seal
  • Quality Check & move along to next stage with docket

General / Packaging

  • Worker reviews docket and seeks clarification from Bindery Supervisor if necessary
  • Perform the task required according the specifications outlined on the docket
  • Quality Check & move along to next stage with docket
  • Enforce and Adhere to Policies and Procedures as outlined in the Health & Safety Manual
